RAVINE CREEK is a certified organic family run vegetable farm on 10 acres in the Slocan Valley, British Columbia. We are committed to demonstrating vibrant ecological health on a working farm.  Our presence serves to engage our community in food production, habitat stewardship, and supporting our local economy. We are fostering a revitalization of agriculture here at home, while maintaining solidarity with other communities engaged in similar efforts.

For over a decade we have been providing our community with access to *truly* local, nutritious and ecologically grown food. In 2019 we began the process of transitioning our vegetable production area to no-till. We completed the transition in the 2021 season and are now proudly using no-till techniques to manage the whole farm.

The farm is located on a 10 acre homestead originally established at the turn of the 20th century. Historically the farm has supported grazing animals, hay pastures and a small orchard, in 2007 the farm was reborn as Rebalkin EcoFarm, growing a wide assortment of vegetables in the current 1.5 acre fenced garden.

The farm changed hands in 2008 and was fallow until 2010. Farmers Alys and Eric are thrilled to have the opportunity to steward this land in vegetables and pasture again. We sell our produce through our CSA at the Farmer’s Market in Nelson, BC. and right here at our farm, every day 9am – 7pm during the growing season. In 2013 we certified with Kootenay Organic Growers Society.

  • The Program runs for 20 weeks from late May to October. Exact start date is dependent on early season weather.
  • Boxes are picked up weekly at either our farm in Appledale or from our stand at the Nelson farmer’s market.
  • Shares are $650/$475 for 20 weeks. Payment can be made by cheque, cash or e-transfer.
  • We are dedicated to doing our best to make our CSA program accessible to all households, regardless of income.  If your household requires an alternate payment schedule, please get in touch directly to discuss options.                                   ALSO
  • There is a pretty rad coupon program run by Healthy Families BC and the BC Farmers Market Association the coupons can be used to purchase produce from our stand (and all the other awesome local farmers! ) at the Nelson Farmers Market on Baker St. Wednesdays from June to Sept. The coupons are available at various advocacy organizations in Nelson (Food Cupboard, Kootenay Kids etc.)
  • What if I’m going away this summer? We ask that members organize a friend or neighbour to come and pick the box up on their behalf OR give us at least 1 week’s notice and we can defer your box to later in the season.
  • We are often asked how many people an average box feeds and the answer is always: it depends! Some households eat tons of fresh vegetables and some comparatively little. But the most consistent feedback we get about our CSA boxes is that they are abundantly full ! For some households that means it’s more than they are used to eating but we have never had anyone say it wasn’t enough 🙂

choose between a prepaid or a pay as you go plan

Prepaid folks prefer this option because:  • it cuts down on etransfer fees and the added busy work of weekly payments.  • it’s great for people who plan to order every week  • We ask for a minimum pre pay of $200 (up to $600)  • you can reload at any time during the season  • if you spend your credit before the season is finished you’re not obliged to reload • credits must be used by October 31

Pay as you go folks

• don’t plan to order as frequently or aren’t able to budget for prepaid • prefer the flexibility of weekly payments

Orders can be picked up here at the farm any day – Nelson deliveries happen Wednesday and Saturday. Order requests must be received 48 hours before your planned pick up.
